Christine Spehar
Founder & Executive Director (she/her)
Christine grew up in Northeast Los Angeles, where she connected with both art and nature from a young age thanks to creative parents and a conservationist sister. She was especially inspired by her artist-mother’s deep appreciation of found objects, which eventually helped her collaboratively form the idea for TRASHformation, RuckusRoots’ pilot program (2010).
As RuckusRoots’ founder and Executive Director, Christine’s role includes strategic organization-wide planning and implementation, fostering impactful program partnerships, spearheading development initiatives, co-designing creative curricula and offering direct services in the field at RuckusRoots’ sites. She also oversees daily organizational processes and operations. Christine is dedicated to her role as a leader within the organization and is a graduate of both Annenberg Alchemy and Soil and Shadow’s Executive Leadership Program.
Christine holds a BA in art and creative writing from the University of Colorado, Boulder. In her spare time, she enjoys dancing, hiking, gardening and cat-snuggling. .
