Our community programs offer opportunities for all ages to connect with the arts in nature or outdoor settings.

GARDEN MAGIC

This program teaches various earth-friendly forms of artistic expression and creative climate-resilience in an outdoor, natural setting.

  • By bringing in local sustainable artists, students are given the opportunity to create art outside, using natural and repurposed materials, drawing connections between their artistic creations and the ecology that surrounds them. Artforms explored in past Garden Magic programs include murals, botanical drawings, plant markers and ollas (subterranean pots used to water plants).

  • Garden Magic is tailored towards youth aged 5-11.

  • Students learn various arts skills like painting, drawing, sculpture and ceramics as they relate to nature, native ecology and climate resilience. Applying these lessons in a natural outdoor setting draws deeper connections between artmaking and creativity to the natural world.

FROM EARTH TO ART

From Earth to Art is a free, intergenerational workshop series for art & earth-lovers of all ages. Led by a local artist, participants learn hands-on natural building and artmaking techniques using affordable, natural materials they can find in their own communities or backyards!

  • This outdoor, hands-on program teaches ancient, sustainable, and creative building techniques using natural materials such as wild harvested clay, straw, sand, nopal juice and more.

Artworks made include earth bricks, fire pits, cob benches, walking sticks, cyanotype prints from native plants.

  • This workshops series serves community members ages 9 and older, offering a chance for intergenerational learning and connection!

  • With an emphasis on accessible techniques and affordable, easy-to-find materials that can be used to enhance living and/or gathering spaces, climate resilience is increased on a hyper-local level.

Identifying natural materials that can be used for art and building, such as invasive plants, native plants, wild clay and more gives participants a direct connection between the natural environment and their own creativity.

From Earth to Art helps restore neighborhood/community connections to the earth, creativity, and one another!
